Sykes visit Paint360 Team to discuss our paint recycling

Our QHSE Manager, Rob Watkins visited the Paint360 team in Halesowen this week. Rob met with their Managing Director, Lee Cole to discuss the closed loop recycling of our paint and containers.

Paint360 is an award-winning social enterprise producing recycled paint with low embodied carbon emissions. Lee was able to demonstrate the process from receiving the IBCs through the segregation of the various products, shredding and recycling of the plastic containers and the paint recycling process.

It is estimated that there are 55 million litres of waste paint generated in the UK alone each year, with only 1% of waste paint being recycled, and the rest going to incineration or landfill.

Paint360 are able to re-engineer waste paint back into brand new paint. Each litre contains a minimum 80% recycled content. The plastic containers also have a minimum of 44% recycled plastic. 1 litre of their paint saves enough embedded carbon to drive a transit van 5 miles carbon free – as verified by the Carbon Footprint Company Limited. Working with Paint360 is just one of the ways that we are looking to reduce our carbon footprint and reduce the environmental impact of our activities.
