Sykes & Son Limited were awarded a contract to reconfigure and refurbish the ground floor of 20 Kingsway and 6th floor of Tower 3 to form a new Centre for Languages & Academic Study Skills.

The project requirement was instigated as part of on-going redevelopment and improvements of the LSE campus. The LSE is in the process of improving its accommodation and has established a 10-year strategic re-development plan.

Several buildings were due for demolition to make way for the new Global Centre for Social Sciences building. This brought about the requirement to decant the current Centre for Languages into alternative accommodation.

The Ground Floor of 20 Kingsway was overhauled in order to create an accessible front of house, waiting area and reception together with open plan study areas, office accommodation and kitchenette.

As part of the contract, Sykes also refurbished Tower 3, Level 6 to provide shared offices with hot desks, meeting facilities and communal kitchen.

The project aim was to provide a sense of arrival to the department and establish an experimental drop-in centre in 20 Kingsway.
