1 Alfred Place

This was a strip out project that Sykes undertook for the City of London.

The building previously housed a private members club, restaurant, serviced office space, co-working spaces, a digital upskilling centre and BT Business support, who abandoned the building during the COVID lockdown. Works were arranged over 4 floors and a basement, and included the complete strip out of all non load-bearing partitions, toilets, kitchens, mechanical and electrical services, leaving an empty shell with temporary fire alarm systems to protect the building until it is redeveloped. There were 2 occupied premises below and within the site (a bank and a restaurant), so early identification of their services contained within our service ducts and or cellar was necessary to ensure no interruption to their business.

With an eye to our sustainability goals, waste streams were closely monitored and where possible, carpets and floor tiles were sold on for re-use by others rather than going to a recycling process, which is seen as being preferable to recycling on the sustainability hierarchy.
